Ray Bradbury was an American science fiction author whose books were translated into over 40 languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.

Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, on August 22, 1920. He was the family's third son.

Leonard Spaulding Bradbury, his father, worked as a telephone lineman and technician. Esther Marie Bradbury (née Moberg), his mother, was a Swedish immigrant.

He went to Los Angeles High School and was a member of the theatre club, with aspirations of becoming an actor.

He completed high school in 1938 and had no more education. Instead, he studied by reading the works of authors such as Lev Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

He sold newspapers on the streets of Los Angeles from 1938 to 1942, spending his days in the local library and his nights at the typewriter.  He used to publish his stories in fanzines at the time.

After the publication of "The Martian Chronicles" (1950), a collection of short stories based in part on concepts from ancient Greek and Roman mythology, Ray Bradbury gained international acclaim.

Bradbury was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2004. At 6644 Hollywood Blvd.,  he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"9766 Bradbury" is an asteroid named after him, and an Apollo astronaut called a crater on the moon "Dandelion Crater" after his novel "Dandelion Wine."

Ray Bradbury died on June 6, 2012,  in Los Angeles, California,  at the age of 91. ssoftgroup.co.in
