J.K Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, England. Her upbringing was mostly happy, however she recalls being bullied over her last name, "Rowling."
Her less-than-ingenious schoolmates used to call her "Rowling pin" all the time. J.K. Rowling claims that she has never warmed up to her own moniker.
She recalls having an affinity for the name Potter since she was a child. J.K.Rowling attended Gloucestershire's St Michael's Primary School before moving to Chepstow, South Wales, at the age of nine.
She wanted to be a writer since she was a child. She tried her hand at writing on a regular basis, but her early attempts yielded little. She composed a book about a bunny with measles at 6y age
Her parents encouraged her to study French at the University of Exeter when she graduated from school. She expressed some reluctance to study French stating that she would have liked to study English
J.K.Rowling graduated from university and held numerous jobs in London after spending a year in Paris. Working for Amnesty International was one of her favourite jobs.
J.K.Rowling first came up with the concept for Harry Potter in 1990. It was on a long train ride from Manchester to London, she recalls, that she began to create ideas in her head.
