Krishnakumar Kunnath, was also known as KK, K.K., and Kay kay,  was a multilingual singer. In Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, he was singing.

Before entering Bollywood, he sang almost 3500 jingles. He also performed the song "Josh of India" in support of the Indian cricket team during the 1999 World Cup.

KK grew up in Delhi after being born in Tiruchur. He was influenced by Kishore Kumar. KK worked as a marketing executive in the hotel sector for eight months.

KK earned his bachelor's degree in commerce from Delhi University's Kirori Mal College. He relocated to Mumbai in 1994 after a few years. He was the Kishore Kumar of the following generation.

Despite his lack of formal vocal training, he distinguished out among Bollywood's other  brilliant playback singers.

In 1999, he released his first album, "Pal." The Star Screen Award for Best Solo Record was given to this album. "Humsafar," his second album, was released in 2008 after a nine-year hiatus.

The song 'Chhod Aaye Hum Woh Galiya' from the film 'Maachis (1996)' gave him his first break as a playback singer in Bollywood.

'Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil' from 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)' was the song that established K.K. as a popular vocalist. It was one of his most successful songs.

Rise Up - Colors of Peace, an international album featuring songs written by Turkish poet Fetullah Gulen and sung by performers from 12 nations, was released in 2013.

Tere Bin, a rock ballad sung by KK, is a high-energy track on the album. "Even though he is a playback vocalist, he is a true rockstar in his heart," remarked drummer  Chris Powell.

In 1991, KK married Jyothy Krishna, his childhood sweetheart. With him, their son Nakul performed the song "Masti" from his latest album Humsafar.
